How to Choose the Best Exterior House Paint Color

How to Choose the Best Exterior House Paint Color

Published Date: March 27th, 2015 | Category: Exterior Painting

As an exterior house painting company in Woodbury, we think about paint color a lot! And we have a few suggestions for you on what to think about when you are choosing the color for your next exterior house painting project.

Go Outside and Look at Your House

Go out and take a long look at your house. Take note of any unique features and get a feel for your home’s “personality.” If your home is more traditional looking, then you probably want to stick with traditional colors. You should also look at your neighbors’ homes and the color palettes they have chosen. It’s important to remember that your home should probably blend with the rest of the homes in your neighborhood. While you want your house to stand out, it’s probably not a good idea to choose bright pink for your exterior house painting project (unless you live in a neighborhood of pink homes!).

Take Inspiration from Nature

If you live in a home that is surrounded by trees, then you can draw inspiration from the browns, greens and other colors from the foliage. If you live in a home that is near water, take your exterior house painting inspiration from the colors of the water and sand. Also, if you have certain plants in your landscaping that you love, you can also take some ideas from there too. Inspiration can be found just about everywhere in nature if you know where to look!

Consider the Color at All Times of the Day

The color you choose for your exterior house painting project should look good throughout the entire day, not just during the morning or afternoon hours. So when you have a color or two in mind, make sure you consider what they will look like throughout the entire day: from the early morning hours through the late afternoon and evening hours. That way, you can be sure your house will look good no matter what time of day it is.

Make Sure the Color Blends with Other Elements

Keep in mind that the color you choose for your exterior house painting project should blend in with your roof, driveway, chimney and other elements of your house. If you choose a color that clashes, you will have to re-do your home’s entire exterior, not just the paint color.
